The Wind That Shakes the Barely (2006) @ The Lanes
The last promotional screening from the BRFF was Ken Loach’s The Wind That Shakes the Barely at The Lanes in Bristol city centre on Saturday 16th February.
The night began with an introduction from Ruairi O’Neill who started by reading the audience an Irish ballard called Patriot Game by Dominic Behan which is written about the Irish nationalist struggle. You can listen to Dominic Behan’s radio version here:
Ruairi also read this quote from James Connolly, the Irish republican and socialist leader:
If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organization of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs.
